| Tim Connelly (New Orleans Pelicans) |
As first reported by ESPN Denver’s Nuggets Insider Benjamin Hochman, the team has hired Tim Connelly as their new Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations. Connelly will essentially serve as the team’s new General Manager. Connelly comes to Denver from New Orleans where he was their Assistant General Manager.
Many considered Pete D’Alessando, previously the Nuggets’ Vice President of Basketball Operations, as the front runner for the position. D’Alessandro, however, accepted the Kings’ GM job over the weekend. Connelly’s hire fills the opening created May 31st when Masai Ujiri left Denver to take over Toronto’s basketball operations.
Connelly’s next priorities will be working with Team President Josh Kroenke to hire a new Head Coach and deal with Andre Iguodala’s pending free agency. Per coaching, the team is scheduled to interview Pacers’ Assistant Brian Shaw Tuesday and former Grizzlies’ Head Coach Lionel Hollins on Wednesday. As for Iguodala, he’ll be opting-out of the final year of his deal to become an Unrestricted Free Agent. The Nuggets have the advantage of offering a fifth year while other teams can only up-to four.
